Jisbar at Gallery 444 San Francisco 2018

Jisbar was born Jean-Baptiste Launay in Val d’Isere, France in 1989. A pop artist who began his artistic endeavors as a Parisian street artist, his creations are a reflection of a society deeply immersed in popular culture and of a generation rocked by the media. Musicians and a multitude of artists inspire him and are often found in his archetypal paintings, which blend modern symbolisms with timeless themes.

Jisbar captures the nostalgia and ease of a childhood past, through colorful visuals. The intensity of hues leads the spectators to focus on each detail and in turn to discover a variety of universes within. Jisbar likes to say each of his artworks represent “moments in life”, like a memory that we immortalize in a photo album. This wistfulness of a time past, the playful innocence as well youthful mischief of his childhood are captured in his paintings, where the power of color plays an overriding part.

Jisbar is a rising star of the art world and has enjoyed successful collaborations with brands such as BMW, Ducati, LG, Armani Exchange & IKKS apparel. He has held exhibitions all over the world, including New York, Paris, London, Milan, Geneva, Dubai, Abidjan,Taipei, and Australia. In 2019, Jisbar paid tribute to Leonardo da Vinci on the 500th anniversary of his passing by sending his reinterpreted Mona Lisa into space. In 2022, Jisbar was contacted by the Louvre and Grand Palais Immersive to be part of the mult-media exhibition "La Joconde". Jisbar had the honor of his "Space Mona Lisa" project video being included in the exhibition featuring iconic images and interpretations of the famous painting at its Paris home.

Gallery 444 is proud to be Jisbar’s first American gallery and to have hosted his first US solo exhibition in 2018.
