John Stango

John Stango artist in studio

Born in Philadelphia in 1958, John Stango comes from a long line of artists. His heritage traces back to the artist Norman Rockwell through his mother, Francis Elaine Rockwell.

John Stango's lifelong passion for art began to take shape at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University. After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Graphic Design, Stango used his creativity, working as a visual merchandiser and display artist for Macy's and Bloomingdale's department stores.

Stango began creating original T-shirt designs in 1985. Finding a great deal of success in this venture, Stango s hand silk-screened designer shirts were being featured in the same department stores where he once worked. Macy s, Fiorucci and Wanamaker s featured his high-fashion, one-of-a-kind T-shirts. Continuing to build a reputation as one of the most innovative artists in the region, Stango turned to painting full time. The earliest of Stango's Pop paintings were initially featured as backdrops for window displays in department stores.

Eventually, Stango began showing in local galleries as his technique became refined with his use of popular images representing glamour and twisted Pop icons. As an emerging American Pop artist, Stango's work is represented in galleries from New York to California, Sweden to Japan,
attracting patrons from all walks of life.

Noticed by all who crave color and appreciate the spontaneous nature of Stango's creations, his
art appears in public and private collections throughout the country.
